Every now and then automobile legends are born, such as the 1969 Mustang Boss 302, and then again, there's the rebirth with the 2012 Mustang Boss 302. We are fortunate to have one of these automobiles at Bob Hurley Ford.

Ford is making 4000 of the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 and of that amount 750 will be a specific model – the Laguna Seca. First, they take a 5.0-liter V8 with upgraded intake and a revised engine that produces 444 horsepower – that's a 32 increase over a standard GT. With CNC ported heads, high flow “runners in a box” intake from the 302R race car plus revised camshafts, this engine generate 38 lb-ft.  of  torque with a six-speed MT-82 transmission. A 3.73 rear axle uses carbon fiber plates in its limited slip differential, and our model has the Torsen differential.

The intake system is engineered to growl harder under acceleration. It also has a quad exhaust system with the standard Mustang GT outlets and adds two side pipes that exit on either side of the rear crossover. The side pipes send the exhaust through a set of metal disks to create even more of a growl.

We have a competition orange exterior with charcoal black cloth bucket Recaro sport seats. It's got high gloss black tape stripe over the hood scoop and a black roof and the reverse C-stripes on the sides.

This has a unique black shift knob, unique Boss 302 door scuff plates, embroidered seats and floormats.

One of the things that makes this car so unusual is that it two keys. One has a black Boss logo and the other in red. Both will start the car. The black one starts the car and gives you a street-legal smooth ride that will impress you way back into the seat when you punch the accelerator. But, if you use the red key – the TracKey – and you unleash a competition-ready track car. That's right, the keys each transmit a signal to the powertrain control module (PCM). The black key uses the factory engine settings for a comfortable ride and the other one alters more than 400 engine parameters, increasing the low-end torque and increasing the track feel. There probably isn't another vehicle out there with dual-path PCM modules  to get differing performance from the same car so easily.

On top of this you can adjust the steering effort to three levels – Comfort, Normal and Sport. Also, you can go to the shock towers and adjust the ride with a flat-head screwdriver. The standard Mustang traction and stability control programs have been altered with a new intermediate sport mode designed to allow for more flexibility on the track.

The ground effects are very similar to the 302R race car, the car has Brembo brakes, black alloy 19-inch wheels with 9-inch wide tires up front and 9.5-inch wide tires in the back. The Pirelli P-Zero tires will handle extremely well. And, by the way, this car gets 17 miles per gallon in the city and 26 mpg highway – that's if you can keep your “foot out of it.”

The list price of this awesome, very desirable sports car is $43,465. This is a very limited production vehicle. The Laguna Secas will only come in two colors – black or ingot silver – with a red roof and red accents. The Laguna Seca is a very limited edition car with only 400 planned to be built. It is designed to bridge the gap between the Boss 302 and the Boss 302R race car. For the money, the Boss 302 gives you two Mustangs – one to drive on Sundays to impress your friends and family and another one to take to the track on Saturday afternoon to power drift through the curves!
